This exhibit is open to Iowa State University students of any major. Artwork must be original and not previously accepted into past Studies in Creativity, Art Inspired, APEX or Focus exhibits. A total of three works, either 2D or 3D, may be submitted. Accepted work must remain on display through the end of the exhibit.
Entries must be uploaded by Sunday, March 1. No late entries will be considered.
Submitted artwork will be juried by Jeremy Chen, Grinnell College Assistant Professor of Art and founding member of The Moving Crew. Artist will receive a notification e-mail by March 9.
Artwork must be presented in “ready to install” condition. All 2D artwork, with the exception of paintings on canvas, must be framed. Two-dimensional artwork must have a secure hanging wire across the back. Saw-tooth and other hanging devices will not be accepted. Fiber pieces must have appropriate casings and rods for hanging.
Accepted artwork not accurately depicted in the entry may be rejected by the Gallery Coordinator at the time of the exhibit installation. The Gallery Coordinator may also refuse to accept or exhibit objects that are improperly prepared for display.
Accepted artwork may be delivered on Monday, March 30 from 4-6pm to the Gallery on the third floor of the Memorial Union. If you are unable to deliver at the designated time, you may make arrangements in advance with Letitia Kenemer for an early drop-off. No late artwork will be included in the exhibit.
Accepted artwork must remain in the possession of the Memorial Union for the duration of the exhibit.
The juror will determine Best of Show, Merit and Honorable Mention award winners. Awards will total $375 - one $100 Best of Show, three $75 Merit Awards and two $25 Honorable Mentions. The Memorial will select a Purchase Award winner. This artist’s piece will be purchased by Memorial Union for inclusion in our Permanent Collection of art. Only pieces that are for sale will be considered for this award.
A public reception will be held on Tuesday, April 14 from 6:30-8pm with juror's comments beginning at 6:45pm. All artists are encouraged to attend, even if your artwork wasn't chosen for this show. Please invite family, friends and your professors, too!
Artists may choose the "Not for Sale" option or indicate a sale price. The MU receives a 20% commission on all artwork sales..
Submission to this exhibition constitutes acceptance of stated conditions. The Memorial Union reserves the right to photograph accepted work for publicity and/or inventory purposes. All entries will be handled in a professional manner. Insurance will be provided while artwork is in the possession of the MU and will cease on May 5, 2020. Coverage is limited and is at the discretion of the Memorial Union.
Artwork may be picked up from the exhibit on Monday, May 4, time TBA. Unclaimed artwork will become property of the Iowa State Memorial Union.
